Helping a Business Grow: Beechwood Landscapes
Focalise Finance have recently supported Beechwood Landscapes to expand their business operations into Arboriculture.
Owner, Andy Wordingham, kindly allowed us to visit his site to see the equipment in action and share a few words.
Beechwood Landscapes has been established for around 4 years and has grown in stature in the local North Norfolk landscaping market. Not only have they increased the volume of their clients and projects supported but also its complexity and size. This expansion into a broader range of services was a natural fit in Andy’s eyes as it has enabled them to complete more work for their existing customer base and tender for larger commercial contracts which they would’ve had to turn down before.
As well as the required knowhow and manpower, Beechwood also had to explore what new equipment would be needed to deliver the arm of the business. Andy identified 2 machines to make this possible;
- Larger material will be extracted and transported back to the yard, then put through the new Japa 365 unit. This machine splits the trunk into firewood for resale and is fitted with a loading arm to support the teams safe operation.
- For the smaller material and use on site, the business will utilise a GreenMech 365 chipper which can be transported behind any of the company’s fleet of vehicles. This compact mobile chipper unit produces quality chip material then sold onto a local haulage company who will sell it on for biomass usage.
Focalise Finance Director, Lewis Buckley, explained the funding process that he went through with Beechwood:
“I already understood the Landscaping side to the business very well, and from previous conversations with Andy I knew the business would continue to expand and grow. I used this knowledge and new information that I had discussed with Andy to explore costs and projections of income for the new equipment before securing 2 competitively priced funding solutions for Andy.
This information was then explained to the lender along with the existing and new sides of Beechwood to help provide context behind the financial accounts that the underwriter would be assessing.
As the broker, we then have to liase with the suppliers of the equipment. In this case, existing relationships with Ben Billing of Fuelwood, Forestry Machinery specialists and local understanding of Stacy Scoles of Thurlow Nunn Standen, we were able to quickly organise the relevant paperwork and ensure quick payment to the suppliers was made in line with the speedy availability of the equipment.”
